Everything starts here. Eating healthy is the best form of self-care. It helps your mind and body function properly. Once your body is nourished properly every other form of self-care can follow. If you were only to focus on one form of self care to practice, eating healthy would be the one to choose.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! This is so important, not drinking enough water can lead to dehydration. Slight dehydration can cause problems with blood pressure and heart rate as well as body temperature leading to headaches and major dehydration can cause sever health problems. Proper Skin Care and Hygiene Routine

Your skin is the largest organ in your body. While eating healthy will effect this the most it is important to keep up on proper hygiene and skin care. Use natural products. Don’t use skin care that is full of parabens and chemicals. These will do more harm than good for your skin.

Moving Your Body…every day!

Now I don’t mean train for a marathon. I mean if thats something you want to do then you go for it! I am just talking about simply exercising your body every day. Whether that is doing stretches or going to the gym. Or maybe even just taking a walk.

Getting Enough Sleep

Sleep is soo important for our body. Adults need a minimum of 7 hours of sleep to maintain proper health and well being. The more the better, in this situation. But try and get the proper amount of sleep each night. Now if you are a long and late worker, work online, or are a mom like me, we know that is not always possible.

Have trouble sleeping? Here are a few things to try that help me.

  • No electronics after dinner (or at least by 7 pm)
  • Magnesium Lotion. I love Earthley’s Good Night Lotion for both myself and my kids right now
  • Warm Tea – Drinking a nice warm mug of tea in the evening always puts me in the right mood and calms me down. Especially after a long stressful day.
  • Hot bath – I think we can all agree that taking a nice hot bath makes anyone relaxed and wants to crawl in bed and lay on a nice pillow to go to sleep.
  • Calming Sounds or Instrumental Music – Piano music anyone? or maybe you prefer white noise.

Taking Time Away From Social Media and Electronics

Take. Time. Off. Whether it’s in the morning or evening. Turn off your Wi-Fi, leave your phone in a different room, silence your notifications. Whatever you have to do. But electronics are over-stimulating for us and our body needs a break. The checking notifications and statuses, and the endless scrolling needs to stop!

Reading a Book

Reading gives us a chance for relaxation, de-stressing, self-reflection and learning. This is the perfect way to relax but not leave your mind idle or bored. Not to mention it is great for research and motivation. If you want to get better in a certain area in your life, then read about it!

What Does A Daily Simple Minimalist Self Care Routine Look Like?

In the Morning

  • Say a prayer and meditate
  • Drink a glass of water.
  • Wash your face
  • Put on make-up (if applicable)
  • Brush and style your hair
  • Get dressed…even if you are just staying home.
  • Eat a good breakfast
  • Start your day. Whatever that may look like.

In the Evening

  • Exercise
  • Eat a good dinner
  • Drink more water
  • Shower or bathe
  • Skin and hair care
  • Read
  • Sleep

Optional Morning or Evening Time

  • Read
  • Shower or bathe
  • Move your body
  • Taking time from social media and electronics
