Simple Minimalist Newborn Girl Wardrobe

As a mom of 3, if I have learned anything in this motherhood journey is that less is more. I hope this simple minimalist newborn girl wardrobe post will help you along the way in planning your baby’s wardrobe.

All I had to do with my first was find out she was a girl and whoosh, the whole apartment was filled with baby girl clothing, shoes, blankets, you name it! I got so overwhelmed after she came. There was stuff EVERYWHERE!

Fast forward to my second, he never was in newborn clothes and I wasn’t prepared for how fast he was going to grow, so the clothes I did have for him in each size were very slim. After a while, I realized how nice it was to just have the essentials and leave it at that. Because they really do grow so so fast! Usually, that cute little $20 splurge outfit that you bought they only wear once anyway and then they outgrow it. Or you feel pressured to make sure and dress them in something specific because you want them to wear it. and let’s be honest, no one has the time or energy for that.

Let’s dive right in!

Simple Minimalist Newborn Girl Wardrobe

Onesies

Given right? Yes, but simplified? No… I feel like onesies are always the least used clothing item I have used (again, I’ve had all Summer babies) If you are having a winter baby and need to layer up, this may be different for you. I will say I recommend either way just getting some plain white onesies as the bulk and maybe a few selected ones other than that. You don’t need 20 onesies that barely match anything.

Sleepers

These are the bulk of what my newborns wear. If it’s cold weather… they are in a sleeper. If it’s hot…I have the AC on and they are in a sleeper. It is just such a cozy, nice, all-in-one outfit option that you know you are one and done, covered. My favorite sleeper I have found so far is the L’oved Baby Brand. You can get them directly from their website or you can find them right here on Amazon. They are a bit pricy but watch for used, and sales and you can find great deals. I have bought a few full-priced because I think they are very worth it! A close second is Little Planet by Carters.

Rompers

These are my favorite go-to cute outfits when they aren’t in a sleeper, usually, they are in a romper! It is just so easy to have one-piece outfits to put your baby in. No worrying about diaper covers or pants, just grab one thing and you’re ready to go! I usually *try* to aim for organic or 100% cotton fabrics for baby clothes (especially newborns) This time around budget was scarce so I decided to look around. I ended up finding some really nice 100% cotton rompers from SHEIN that I am very happy with.

Dresses

Little tiny babies in little tiny dresses are oh-so cute! But also impractical and hard to hold on to them. However, we go to church every Sunday and Summer is usually wedding season so I don’t mind having a few on hand for the occasions.

Sweater

Sometimes it’s just a little chili for those tiny babes, even on those summer days! I like to have one neutral sweater for the baby.

Socks

I hate baby socks…they are small, the baby kicks them off, and they mix and match…just ugh! However, I do care about my babies and do think their feet need to be covered to be kept warm so here we are…normally I would just get one pack of white socks that were all the same style/color. But this time I was gifted a pack of socks from my sister, so I am just going to use those. In the future when she sizes up I will be purchasing one pack of white grip socks and that’s all she’ll use/have.

Knot Hats

These just beat those short and wide 90s baby hats so much! I never understood those, they never worked on any baby’s heads I feel like! And still don’t. I have 2 knot hats I like to keep for the baby and that’s it. I have a sage green one and a white one.

Sun Hat

Summer baby = Hello sunshine! As nice as those knot hats are, they can get warm! So having a nice sun hat to wear outside is always a good idea.

Bonnet

This isn’t 100% necessary in my opinion. But as I mentioned above, with having a Summer baby and it being wedding season and going to church every Sunday. A little Sunday bonnet is a nice addition to a little sundress.

2 Swaddles

This is both a useless and a “must-have” item for me. My first would NOT take to a swaddle…My second, needed his swaddle to fall asleep. So I will keep 2 of these on hand (just in case there’s that midnight wet through) in case she is going to be that “must-have” swaddle baby. I use just the basic Amazon brand ones. I will link them here.

Swaddle Blankets

I don’t know if you’d consider this a wardrobe clothing item, but since they are so important, in my opinion, I’m going to add them to the list! I use these for everything. Burp cloth, Nursing cover, car seat cover, diaper changing pad, you name it! I do like to keep 3 or 4 of them because I use them so much! Make note to always get the Large ones, some of them are not much bigger than a receiving blanket and aren’t much help at all.

I hope you enjoyed this post on simple minimalist newborn girl wardrobe. And that this encourages you to not overwhelm yourself when you are planning out your baby’s wardrobe. Especially for a summer baby. They really don’t need much at all 🙂

As always, thank you so much for being here and I hope you will come along with me on this journey to simplify motherhood.

  1. Such a gorgeous wardrobe for a baby girl! I have 3 little girls and we had so many to hand down. But I bought some special pieces for each little girl. Your clothes here are beautiful, like your daughter!

  2. I love baby girl dresses! They are so cute to look at. Boy clothes need to catch up in the cuteness factor but there are some pieces that are cute.
