What do you need to make the best 2 ingredient homemade vinegar all-purpose cleaner?
This 2 ingredient cleaner is so simple. There’s no need for extra ingredients that are often found in non-toxic all-purpose cleaners like baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, citric acid, orange essential oil, Dr. Bronner sals suds, or liquid castile soap.
1. Vinegar
The biggest complaint I hear from white vinegar cleaners is that some people don’t like the smell of vinegar. Well, I’m here to tell you that you can still have that amazing lemon or orange citrus-smelling cleaner using vinegar.
2. Lemon and/or orange peels
When preparing to make homemade vinegar all-purpose cleaner, keep any lemon or orange peels you are going to discard. I like to keep them in a container in the fridge because I don’t use large amounts of these at a time.
3. Mason Jar
You can use a mason jar, or any kind of jar with a lid, really. I usually use a random jar, my mother-in-law gave me with some canned venison in it. Jars have been hard to come by over here. Most mason jars I like to keep for storing and canning.
Optional: Glass Spray Bottle
Using a glass spray bottle is one of my favorite ways to use this multipurpose cleaner. I dilute it with one part cleaner to two parts water and I clean almost everything with this. So I do recommend having one of these handy.
Directions:
Start by collecting lemon and orange peels that you’ve been using instead of discarding. No need for lemon juice or essential oils. Just simply the peels you weren’t going to use anyway.
Take your jar and wash it out. After you have washed and rinsed your jar, grab all of your peelings and put them into the jar.
Grab vinegar, add part of the vinegar to the jar, and fill it up to the ring. You can use whatever household vinegars you have in your home to make this homemade vinegar cleaner.
Place the lid on the jar and put it into your pantry or cabinet for at least 3 weeks.
After the 3+ weeks are done you are free to use it. If I add it to a glass spray bottle I like to dilute it one part cleaner and two parts distilled water.
Uses for Homemade Vinegar All-Purpose Cleaner:
This 2 ingredient homemade vinegar all-purpose cleaner is an effective homemade cleaner. You can use it to clean many surfaces such as;
countertops – l love washing all the food, dust, or grime off of the counters with a rag, and finish them off by spraying down the counter with this 2 ingredient vinegar all-purpose cleaner. Leave your counters clean and shiny before you continue your day.
soap scum – Soap scum is something that always bothers me. I could never find any store-bought cleaners that could get mineral deposits on hard surfaces. I like to sprinkle some baking soda on the locations and let it soak for a few minutes. Then pour the vinegar cleaner over it and scrub it off.
clean mirrors – This works well when added to a spray bottle and wiped with a microfiber or a Swedish dishcloth.
everything in your bathroom – make your bathroom smell clean and fresh after you clean it with this
window sill – Grab some old t-shirt rags and clean out those window sills. I like to add the cleaner to a spray bottle when I am cleaning window sills.
trash cans – Depending on how often you clean your garbage cans (I know I don’t do it enough). They usually are pretty gross by the time I take the time to deep clean them. I like to sprinkle the bottoms with baking soda. Pour the cleaner directly into the bottom, and let them soak for a good hour. I take them out and spray them outside. If you don’t have an option to spray them outside, I like to rinse them off in the bathtub.
hard water stains – if you have stubborn water stains this is one of my favorite DIY cleaners to use. I like to add some baking soda to the affective area and spray or pour the cleaner over top of it. Let sit for about 10 minutes and you will be able to scrub away those stubborn hard water stains
Things vinegar cleaner shouldn’t be used on
Hardwood Floors – Vinegar can dull and damage your hardwood floors.
To clean Marble or granite surfaces – You shouldn’t use vinegar or lemon on marble because their acidity can eat away at the stone.
